Kyrgios pulls out

NICK Kyrgios has withdrawn from the Delray Beach Open beginning on Monday because of a right elbow injury. Kyrgios was hurt in Australia’s Davis Cup loss to Germany two weeks ago and withdrew from the ATP event in Rotterdam last week. He had been training in Delray Beach for the past few days. “I was working hard to be able to be fit and healthy, but my elbow needs more time,” he said. “I’ll continue to keep trying to get it right.” Kyrgios was seeded fifth.

Catley looks to No.4

MELBOURNE City captain Steph Catley says her all-conquering side’s hunger for success has not been satisfied by a third-straight W-League title. And that means a history-making fourth championship in a row is on the agenda for next season. City became the first side in WLeague history to reach three championships by winning Sunday’s grand final 2-0 over Sydney FC at Allianz Stadium. Catley said City would continue its quest to keep raising the WLeague bar in 2018-19. “It’s about being the best you can be at this club,” Catley said.

Wright for return

WORLD surfing champion Tyler Wright is “good to go” after eight weeks out of the water and two intensive weeks of rehabilitation on a knee injury that almost ended her tilt at a second world crown. Fresh from winning an Australian boardriders’ event at Newcastle, Wright will contest her first major women’s event since securing the world crown last December when she lines up in this week’s Surfest. Wright has likened the upcoming Newcastle tournament to a rugby league trial match, with her surfing – more than the result – what is most important to her. “It’s just like a trial game. It’s all about helping me get ready,” she said.
