Wallace key to Crows’ thrilling AFLW triumph

CAIRNS junior Ruth Wallace picked up 10 key touches in the Adelaide Crows’ nailbiting AFLW victory over the Western Bulldogs on Saturday.

The former Parramatta State School student has been a shining light for the Crows this season.

The Crows came from behind to record a seven-point victory over the Bulldogs at Norwood Oval to maintain hopes of back-to-back premsee ierships. Wallace grabbed five kicks and five handballs in an encouragin­g display.

“Jess Allen in the ruck came through our under-18 program last year, so it’s been exciting to those (rookies including Eloise Jones and Wallace) get some game time,” Crows assistant coach Andrew Hodges said.

■ SOUTH Cairns Cutters Zac Ewer, Damien Dewis and James Dixon were handed a loss to Southern Districts in the final home-and-away round of the NTFL on Saturday afternoon. The trio, who play for Pint, fell to Southern Districts 11.8-74 – 6.0-36.

Pint finished fourth on the Division 1 ladder with a 12-6 record.

■ INNISFAIL UFC fighter Jessica-Rose Clark has returned to training following her defeat of Paige VanZant in St Louis last month.

Clark on Saturday tweeted a photo from Syndicate MMA in Las Vegas, where she had just completed a sparring session with other fighters.

“Feeling like I didn’t take any time off!” Clark tweeted.
