Buffalo gores man
LOS ANGELES: Authorities say a buffalo has gored a man camping on Southern California’s Catalina Island. Los Angeles County sheriff’s officials say the man was sitting on a log on Saturday night and the buffalo was grazing nearby. Sergeant Ray Ward says that when the buffalo came closer, the man tried to move away and that’s when the animal charged. Sgt Ward says the buffalo gored the man’s left arm. The man was treated at the scene and then flown to a hospital on the mainland.
Dynamite the killer
LA PAZ: Bolivian authorities said on Sunday that both of the explosions that killed 12 people during recent carnival celebrations were caused by dynamite, not exploding gas canisters as initially thought. Officials are still trying to determine who planted the explosives in Oruro and why.
Oxfam sex scandal
LONDON: Oxfam’s country director in Haiti admitted to using prostitutes at his residence, according to an internal investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct released by the charity yesterday. Roland Van Hauwermeiren ran the Oxfam operation in Haiti after an earthquake in 2010.
Embassy smeared
JERUSALEM: Swastikas and profanity have been daubed on the entrance to Poland’s embassy in Israel after Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said Jews were among perpetrators of the Holocaust. Poland sparked international criticism over its stance on the Holocaust when it passed a law imposing jail terms for suggesting the country was complicit in the deaths of millions of Jews during the war.
