Community service for MDMA pusher

-

A 24-YEAR OLD former nightclub worker has been handed two years probation and 100 hours of community service after supplying and possessing the drug MDMA.

Moshangwe Shawn Geia appeared in the Cairns District Court yesterday, pleading guilty to several drug offences as well as obstructing police and contravening a direction or requirement. The court heard that on March 5 last year during patrols of the Safe Night Precinct, police saw Geia “acting suspiciously” outside Rusty’s Markets with another man at about 12.05am.

Police detained the two and Geia become aggressive towards officers, swearing at them and refusing to co-operate. During a search police found 36 brown-coloured pills (MDMA) embossed with a “Pikachu” symbol in a clipseal bag on Geia, as well as $120 in his wallet.

Police also found one pill on the other man, who said he had bought four of the same pills from Geia for $120.

The MDMA pills found on Geia weighed a total of 10.192 grams. Crown prosecutor Naomi Nelson said Geia had made “no level of co-operation by way of admission or by way of search on the night”.

Defence barrister James Sheridan said Geia was still a young man who had worked as an MC in a nightclub, which was how he got involved with drugs. He said any money he made from selling the MDMA he used for his own habits.
