Roll out wheelie bins

AURUKUN Shire Council is reminding residents that wheelie bin collection days are each Wednesday. Residents must put their bin out onto the street reserve by 9am every Wednesday as there will be no other collection­s until the following week.

Fun run and markets

THE Weipa community will host an Internatio­nal Women’s Day fun run, markets and breakfast on Saturday. Held at the old gymnastics club, run participan­ts will start from 7am. Breakfast will be served from 8am. The event will also have a yoga class, prizes for best dressed in purple and more. Entry is a gold coin donation with Rio Tinto matching donations dollar for dollar. All funds will go towards the local women’s shelter.

Productive history

HISTORY buffs will soon have the chance to dive into Cooktown’s past. The Historical Society is trialling a series of History Nights this year. The first will be held at Cooktown History Centre, 121 Charlotte St, on March 14, from 7-9pm. Bev Shay will present a talk entitled A Productive Community. Her talk will be about the production and exporting that took place in Cooktown in the early 1900s. Everyone is welcome to the free event. Details, phone 4069 6640.

Project grants

COMMUNITY groups and other organisati­ons are invited to submit their applicatio­ns for a share of up to $300,000 in multicultu­ral project grants. Minister for Multicultu­ral Affairs Stirling Hinchliffe said eligible organisati­ons had until the end of the week to get their applicatio­ns in for the second round of the Celebratin­g Multicultu­ral Queensland grants program. Applicatio­ns can be submitted in hard copy or online at dlgrma.qld. gov.au/cmq-grants
