Company to pile in for a Nova start
MORE than 300 piles will be driven into the ground at the construction site of Nova City as work finally gets underway on the $550 million project in the heart of Cairns.
Manunda-based contractor LDI Constructions has landed the civil and foundation contract to begin work at the Spence St block, where the first of seven towers for the mixed residential and commercial project will be built, from April 8.
LDI Constructions project manager Jason Whiteside, whose firm signed paperwork with Nova City developer World Class Global earlier this week, said it was great to see the Singaporean corporation using local businesses.
He said about 15 construction workers would be employed for the job, which would involve creating the foundations for Nova City’s first tower, named “Nova Light.”
“There’s some initial work that needs to be done and, of course, that’s weather dependent,” he said. “But we are planning on starting piling on April 8. The work should take about five months.”
Nova Light will be a 17-storey, 187-apartment tower offering, at street level, a highend retail dining precinct.
It will also incorporate “Club Nova”, a landscaped, lifestyle, entertainment and recreation area for residents and the general public.
The first stage of the project is expected to be completed by mid-2020.
World Class Global’s sales director Zak Thaker said Nova City would offer an unprecedented level of luxury to inner-city living, while in elegant restraint in keeping with Cairns and its tropical lifestyle.
“What we have here is the best of the best: the highest quality marbles, timbers and soft furnishings that exude lifestyle luxury but stand the test of time,” he said.
