How dry shampoo can spare your hair

HUMIDITY is in plenty of abundance in Cairns.

Along with humidity comes the pleasures of having a sweaty, oily scalp and the pressure to wash your hair every day.

But Zeal Hair third year apprentice Kianna Darcey told Well and Good about the best ways to use dry shampoo to get more out of each wash.

“Dry shampoo has a lot of uses,” she said.

“You can use it, if you find the roots of your hair get really oily and dirty, you can spray shampoo on it to absorb some of the oil. It makes it appear less oily.

“Some people have really fine hair so you can spray it in the roots to give it a bit more volume. We also use it in upstyling.

“Sometimes if the hair is too soft to work with you can add it and it creates more texture.”

She said the length of time someone could go without shampooing in the shower varied, but most people could last a good couple of days.

“It really depends on your personal hair type, but I would say only use dry shampoo anywhere for about one to three days between washes,” she said.

“After that definitely wash your hair, do two shampoos to make sure your scalp is clean and all the product is out.”

She said washing was key to making the product work properly, because no amount of dry shampoo could cover the effects of a truly dirty, grimy scalp.

“Because you’re adding product to your hair that’s going to build up and eventually make your hair dirty,” she said.

“If you’re using it and find your hair does get oily all the time you don’t want to overuse it.

“You can get cleansing shampoos, which does exactly what it’s called.

“It helps to remove all the build up that’s in your hair.”

WE ALSO USE IT IN UPSTYLING. SOMETIMES IF THE HAIR IS TOO SOFT TO WORK WITH YOU CAN ADD IT AND IT CREATES MORE TEXTURE.” KIANNA DARCEY
