Triplets are a handful but it’s all about routine

TWINS were always on the cards for Gordonvale couple Leigh Dunn and Angela Flaws as they had fertility treatment.

But triplets came as a welcome surprise and the new parents were grateful for the support by the FNQ Multiple Birth Association.

“We didn’t know what to expect, obviously, because they’re our first kids and we’re older parents,” she said.

“We were hoping for two. It was a ‘holy crap’ moment, but we had plenty of time to come to terms with it.”

The couple’s children, Parker, Jasper and Mackenzie were born on March 6 last year.

“The first five or so weeks after we brought them home we were doing things on demand,” Ms Flaws said.

“We didn’t quite know how to manage it. It was a struggle to begin with.”

She said having a consistent schedule was her advice for other parents of multiples.

“A lot of people ask me how I do it and I tell them that it’s all about routine,” she said.

“Establish your routine and stick to it as much as possible. You have to be a bit flexible, but stick to it when you can.”

This week is Multiple Birth Awareness Week.

Parents of multiples are encouraged to join the group and can get involved by visiting fnqmba.org.au.
