MULGRAVE ADVANCE TO FINAL

- JACOB GRAMS

MULGRAVE is into its seventh straight Cricket Far North two-day grand final after the semi-final against Norths was declared a washout.

Optimistic officials hoped play could take place on Sunday but quickly realised it would be impossible after an inspection at Fuller Park just after 9am.

Cricket Far North president Peter Huey said it was disappointing and had his fingers crossed the grand final between Atherton and Mulgrave, to be played over four days at Griffiths Park, would not be similarly affected.

“Mulgrave did an exceptional job of trying to get the first grade wicket up and running but it just wasn’t to be,” he said.

Norths skipper Angus Warnock was disappointed not to make a third consecutive decider and was left to lament a slow start to the season.

“We kind of knew from Wednesday it wasn’t going to happen,” he said.

“Obviously it was frustrating we had such a good end to the year and couldn’t push on.

“After a slow start to the year we finally came together and everyone knew their role inside and started scoring runs in partnerships and bowling in partnerships, but all to no avail in the end.”

Warnock tipped Mulgrave to extend their winning history in the final over Atherton, who are hoping to add to their T20 and one-day triumphs this season.
