Quality time tops my list
THE main reason why having your first child is such a worldchanging event is simple – it is no longer about you.
You can’t get sleep when you need it. You can’t do what you want, when you want to. It becomes about a much littler person who needs you more.
The survey outcome that all mothers want on their special day is quality “me” time is stating the absolute obvious.
It’s a running joke among mums that they drop the kids off to school and drive away in absolute glee. It’s not a cruel or uncaring attitude. It’s a mum who wants a little time with herself just being herself.
I’m not trying to be some mother of the year, but for me, the epitome of Mother’s Day is the fact I am a mother, and so spending quality time with the little fella would be the best way to spend the day.
Then again a day spa visit, which involved plates of doughnuts that don’t cause weight gain and a hot bloke named Sven whose job would be to tell me I look nice (because he really means it) would be pretty good too.
In this case, I will happily take a big sloppy kiss and a cuddle from the little fella, all his precious handmade treats and a brekky somewhere with the extended family. There are other things that would make me happy – being able to have a good belly laugh with my son; going for a walk with him; and cuddling up to watch a movie together. Those things for me are heaven.
