Music a real extension of confidence
EVERY lunchtime on a Tuesday, I join my friends in the music room for a fun-filled session of extension music at Redlynch State College.
There we join our teacher Daniel Bruce for 50 minutes of doing what we love – singing.
When the lesson starts I feel happy to be there because our teacher and the group are very supportive of each other.
This support makes all of us feel confident and comfortable while singing. Mr Bruce will work with us individually and as a group so we can interact and improve on our performance skills.
One activity that we complete with Mr Bruce is to gather in a group and everyone will sing a different song to each other.
This is to improve our confidence when performing in front of people.
Another group activity that we do is, after we sing to each other, we will give feedback to each other.
With this feedback we are then able to work on what we need to improve and practice.
What brings us together as a group each week is our love of singing and performing.
Singing is a good talent and it is my absolute favourite thing to do because I am passionate about it and it makes me happy.
Extension music has helped me interact with other singers and has helped me be more socially confident.
I believe it has also helped to make me more confident when speaking publicly, whether it be in front of my class or on parade. Extension music at Redlynch State College is a great program and I would encourage anyone that enjoys singing and performing to give it a go.
