Juniors off to flying start in Intrust Super Cup

-

TWO Far North juniors have made flying starts to the Intrust Super Cup season.

Hope Vale product Linc Port scored a second half double for Easts Tigers on Saturday to get his side into the lead, before the CQ Capras kicked a penalty goal and field goal in the dying minutes for a 15-14 win in Rockhampton.

It was also a fruitful step up to senior footy for former Innisfail junior Michael Carroll coming out of the Cowboys under-20s system.

Playing on the left wing, he scored the opening try in the Blackhawks 56-12 romp over Mackay and had a double within 24 minutes.

■ Former Cairns City Lions utility Joshua Saveka is likely to line up for the Darwin Buffaloes in the Northern Territory Football League grand final this weekend.

Saveka played in the Buffathe loes’ comfortable semi-final win over Southern Districts Crocs last week, advancing them straight to the grand final.

But the Buffaloes will face Crocs again after Southern Districts defeated Nightcliff in the preliminary final. Saveka played 15 games for Darwin this season.

■ Recently departed Cairns Taipan Scoochie Smith is stuffing the stat sheet for the Canton Charge in the NBA’s G League.

In his first three games for the Ohio team, Smith has averaged 12 points, two steals, six rebounds and a block in the 34 minutes of game time.

The Charge are a feeder team for the Cleveland Cavaliers.

■ Half Moon Bay golfer Will Florimo has finished 53rd at the 2018 Riversdale Cup, falling short of an under-par goal.

The tournament is the second-oldest men’s amateur event in Australia, held at the nation’s second-oldest golf course outside Melbourne and attracts the best young players in the country.
