A BOUNCING baby baboon has added a cute new addition to the primate pack at the Melbourne Zoo.

Mahali is the fifth baby born at the enclosure since 2015 and is running rings around her mum Macey.

The Baboon Lookout is full of infant monkeys, with four births in the past year.

Zookeepers welcomed the newborn to their baboon clan on February 11, and the onemonth-old youngster is making her presence known, while still sticking close to mum as she learns the ropes. Mahali is winning over plenty of visitors with her cheeky grin and big pink ears.

She was spotted with her family snacking on a walnut shell for breakfast this week.

The foragers are also known to feast on vegetables, insects and leafy branches.

Before 2015, Melbourne Zoo had not reared any baboon infants for 15 years.

Now, Mahali, Juju, Melako, Quasi and Gana are boosting the numbers of the nearthreatened species and adding even more entertainment to the zoo.
