Warning in wake of attack

A MANOORA woman is urging other residents across the Far North to ensure they lock up after a brazen attack in her own home left her with minor injuries.

At about 8.15pm on Monday, Brittney Moody, 22, was at home with her twoyear-old son when she noticed a man standing inside.

She said she moved towards the man before he fled the Olive St residence. Outside she saw a woman with her car keys.

During an attempt to get the keys back, Ms Moody was punched, bitten and pushed by the other woman.

She received minor injuries as a result but managed to get the keys back.

Ms Moody said she was shaken up but was now recovering.

She even went to work just hours later before being sent home by her boss to rest.

“It didn’t register at first that someone was standing there. It was a bit surreal,” she said. “It all happened so suddenly ... it was all instinct and adrenalin and panic mode.”

Ms Moody said she was always very security conscious but unfortunately this time had forgotten to lock the front door.

“I urge everyone to double check that you’ve locked everything, even if you think you’re in a safe area,” she said.

Senior Constable Russell Parker said both suspects were last seen running towards Pease St.

“We’re calling for anybody in that area who may have witnessed this incident or seen anyone running from that area just after 8pm to pick up the phone and call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000,” he said. “These opportunists are about and they are out there trying doors and, unfortunately, on this occasion they’ve got in.”

The male suspect is described as being indigenous, aged in his early 20s, of slim build and about 180cm tall wearing dark clothing. The female is described as being caucasian, also in her 20s, but much shorter, wearing lightcoloured clothing with a hooded jumper.

Investigations into incident are continuing. the
