Pedestrian killed

POLICE are investigat­ing the death of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle in the car park of an Atherton shopping centre. A Queensland Police Service spokesman said officers were called to the scene at about 2.30pm yesterday after a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle in the car park of the Cook St complex. Police confirmed the pedestrian later died from injuries. The spokesman said police were treating the incident as a serious traffic crash and forensic crash officers were investigat­ing.

Plane fuel theft

POLICE are investigat­ing after about 60 litres of high octane fuel were stolen from a plane at the Mareeba Airport between March 5 and March 7. It will be alleged the fuel was stolen from the starboard wing of the plane, which was parked in the tie down area of the airport at the time. Skydiving approved

PARACHUTIN­G onto pristine Douglas Shire beaches will be allowed for the first time ever. Douglas Shire Council approved commercial tandem skydiving at four foreshore areas at yesterday’s ordinary council meeting. The nominated areas include the southern end of Four Mile Beach, Wonga Beach, Cow Bay Beach and Myall Beach in Cape Tribulatio­n. Each drop zone is 20m by 20m.

Mango season ends

THE last of the fruit from the 2017/18 mango crop in the Mareeba/Dimbulah region is expected to be dispatched this week, weather permitting. Recent heavy rain has caused some delays for growers picking the last of the fruit.

Ambulance fight

POLICE made two arrests for public nuisance yesterday afternoon at Anzac Park next to the Reef Hotel Casino in Cairns. At about 4pm, Queensland Ambulance Service officers were treating a man at the park when another man started a fight with him. Both were arrested for public nuisance.
