On other matters

Bob Manning ... I read a brief lately that states your CEO is receiving $400,000 per annum and is committed to spending $130m-plus a year on infrastructure. Due to the recent EBA breakdown I assume you intend to raise these funds by withholding rightful pay and conditions from long serving/suffering council employees. Any comment, sir? Andrew, North Cairns Wait, what? Channel Nine is predicting a cyclone for Brisbane but the BOM isn’t? Is this raw, unadorned, ratings-generating craziness in action? Sad. Miss T, Tolga A Ugandan government minister suggests men slap their wives to make them behave and the western left howls their outrage. A South African government minister suggests cutting white throats and stealing white farmers’ land and the western left is silent. Says it all, really. Woz, Parramatta Park Easy to see Cairns Regional Council shirking their responsibility to remove bats from the inner city. Easier to make out it’s a State Government issue. Ratepayer, Cairns In WA 30 years ago we received three free trailerloads of general rubbish including greens and two of others, like rocks etc, included in our rates. If it was a rental property the owner passed them on. Our council promotes people to dump rubbish anywhere. Robert, Earlville Get real Bazza (CP, 13/2). The amount of coverage given to Jarryd Hayne is nothing compared to the rubbish dished out every day about Thurston. Does anybody else play for the Cowboys? Elaine, El Arish Australia has vast distances and a shaky electricity grid. Naturally, Greens want to ban petrol and diesel vehicles and only allow battery-electric vehicles (CP, 13/3). You can’t make up that level of stupidity. Mic, Cairns
