Remember how Gillard said there’d be no carbon tax and then there was? And then Abbott said he’d repeal it and he did? Well, the first thing Turnbull did in 2015 was bring the carbon tax back without telling us. It’s now called an “Emissions Reduction Fund Safeguard Mechanism” and it is idling in the background. All it needs is a politician to step on the accelerator and a full-blown carbon tax is back. This shows that Turnbull has always been a leftist and is conservative in name only. Woz, Parramatta Park Re: Overgrown grass. Mick (texts, 19/3) it’s not just your end. The roads and roundabouts to Northern Beaches are horrible. Overgrown so much now that it is being cut. It is hay left to rot. No edges trimmed and the highways have never looked worse. Just very poor housekeeping by the authorities. Sue, Edge Hill Bill Shorten. Instead of attacking superannuation savings how about reducing government waste and reduce debt. $14.5 billion is the annual interest alone and it’s all due to mismanagement. Beth, Kanimbla How very unsurprising that the Brisbane government “has no data” on the savings that were meant to flow from forced council amalgamations (CP, 19/3). ‘Savings’ were never the objective. Forced amalgamations were always about centralising control and silencing small town voices. Higgs, Tolga Few people understand salt. There are many types of salt, and indeed some are vital to good health. The salt sodium chloride however (common table salt, the killer condiment) is the trouble maker. Most people are addicted to it and it is very hard to avoid. I have Menieres disease which is triggered by sodium chloride, so I consume one tenth the amount of sodium chloride salt recommend by Queensland Health. For me 400mg per day. Most people have about 5000mg. Thanks to Prof John Beard’s salt research I got my life back. He is my hero. I don‘t get cramps from lack of salt either and I am an Ironman 70.3 cyclist.
