Seth and mum achieve their goal

- DANAELLA WIVELL

SETH Spencer is only 12 but he’s already set his sights on becoming one of the best basketballers Cairns has ever seen.

That’s why he, along with Victorian basketball fan Marie Cicciari, waited to greet the Australian, Malaysian, New Zealand and Canadian basketball teams as they arrived at the Cairns Airport on Saturday.

Seth said he made a special trip to the airport with his parents to meet the players.

“It’s really exciting, seeing the people who play for our country is awesome,” he said.

“I play basketball, and I go for the Taipans in the NBL.

“It’s my dream to play basketball and to meet our Aus- tralian players.” This won’t be the only time Seth sees the players, as he’s already nabbed tickets to the basketball preliminaries at the Snake Pit.

“We go to pretty much every game that’s here, and we’re going to a lot of the Commonwealth Games basketball games,” he said.

Ms Cicciari said she would be back home at Frankston by the time the Commonwealth Games kicked off, but she would gladly watch her basketball heroes on television.

“I’ll definitely be watching the Commonwealth Games at home,” she said.

“I used to play basketball myself, so it’s great to see the Boomers, and I got a nice selfie, so that’s really cool.”
