Confidence boost for winning partnership
LIKE many Australians, Cannon Park trainer Trevor Rowe is getting right into the footy season.
After training a race-to-race double at Cairns Jockey Club on Saturday afternoon, the perennial trainer’s premiership winner declared his stable was on the way to “kicking a few goals” over the next few months.
Rowe’s horses have experience a leanish first few months of 2018 but wins to Effigy Belle and Stable Surprize to round out the card at Cannon Park on Saturday have Rowe optimistic about what is on the horizon.
Cairns hoop Sonja Wiseman rode half of the six-race card, booting both of Rowe’s winners home as well as Kensington Star for Scott Cooper.
“We have got some nice horses coming along too, so
WE HAVE GOT SOME NICE HORSES COMING ALONG TOO, SO HOPEFULLY BETWEEN SONJA AND I, WE CAN KICK A FEW GOALS IN THE COMING MONTHS CAIRNS TRAINER TREVOR ROWE
hopefully between Sonja and I we can kick a few goals in the coming months,” Rowe said.
“Man Around Town is just around the corner from racing, Foxy Feline and a couple of nice two-year-olds too.
“Stable Surprize has been here for 18 months now. We had a few issues with him early on but he is two from two this campaign – we could not be more pleased.
“He might show a bit of promise for the Cups later in the year.
Wiseman, who made her racing comeback from shoulder surgery late last year, is back to her brilliant best after collecting a pair of winners last month at Townsville to go with her treble on Saturday.
A heart-to-heart conversation between the long-time trainer and jockey partnership has helped spur on the 26year-old hoop.
“We sat down after Christmas and I told Sonja that she was riding indecisive,” Rowe said. “I was not sure if she was concerned about her shoulder or whatnot, but I told her she was a much better rider than what she was showing.
“Sonja was second-guessing herself but she has taken that on board and is now going ahead in leaps and bounds.”
Earlier in the day, the locals dominated the transferred meeting from Einasleigh, with five of the six races won by Cannon Park trainers.
Alwyn Bailey claimed a double as Centrehalf Forward and Craiglea Aldi greeted the judges. Sharlee D’Avila was the lone non-Cannon Park trainer to win a race on Saturday.
