Right royal treats in store for prince’s visit

- ALICIA NALLY

AS CITY leaders make sure roads, gardens and public amenities are looking good ahead of a royal visit this weekend, one business is ensuring supplies of British snacks will not run low.

All Sorts of Sweets owner Marla Lane has put in extra orders of goodies to make sure the shelves of the Cairns Central store are fully stocked just in case Prince Charles fancies a packet of chips from home.

“Everyone loves a taste of home, especially crisps and sweets,” Ms Lane said.

“The Monster Munch crisps and savoury snacks are the bestsellers among British customers. With sweets, it is a bit different. The younger ones love their bonbons and the older ones like pear drops.

“English chocolate is so much better than Australian, too, because it has a much higher dairy content.”

Although hopeful, Ms Lane does not realistically expect the heir to the British throne to stop by her shop, but she said Far North residents should be proud Prince Charles chose to visit the region.

“Any time a high profile person visits is it great for Cairns. It brings the locals out for celebrity spotting,” she said.

Prince Charles is expected to tour the Royal Flying Doctor Service base and attend the Commonwealth Games basketball preliminaries at the Cairns Convention Centre.
