4WD road access

THE Aurukun Access Road has been opened to light 4wd passenger vehicles under five tonnes. Weather conditions are regularly viewed by Aurukun Shire Council officers, Queensland Police and Transport and Main Roads. Opening of the Aurukun Access Road may be temporary due to the expected monsoonal rain. Visit council’s Facebook page for updates.

Australia Day survey

TORRES Shire Council has opened a community survey for residents to have their say on future Australia Day celebratio­ns in 2019 and beyond. Residents are asked to complete an online survey with their feedback at www.torres.qld.gov.au, or by visiting the council office at 68 Douglas Street.

Cape mums health

APUNIPIMA Cape York Health Council has launched a new project to address the health inequality of indigenous mothers and babies in Cape York. The new project is being carried out by Apunipima Cape York Health Council to improve nutrition before, during and after pregnancy. Apunipima has been awarded funding from Northern Queensland Primary Health Network to deliver the Optimal Infant Nutrition for Cape York Mums Project. The project will build upon Apunipima’s award-winning Baby One Program and further develop a suite of tools, workshops and activities around nutrition for mothers and infants to improve long-term health and wellness outcomes.

Volunteer tea

The Cooktown History Centre is hosting a volunteers’ morning tea on Friday, April 6 at 10am. It gives an opportunit­y for volunteers, who normally work in three hour shifts to meet up, or for new volunteers to get involved.
