Funding for dancers

DANCE teams from the Torres Strait and Northern Peninsula Area are invited to apply for funding assistance to perform at the Darwin Festival and Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair in August. This initiative is part of the Torres Strait Regional Authority Dance Strategy, providing an opportunit­y for local dancers to develop their skills and perform in front of large audiences. Pitt’s part of team

NAPRANUM Aboriginal Shire Council has welcomed newly elected Councillor Marie Pitt to the council. Cr Pitt was sworn in on April 4 following a by-election last month. “The council welcomes Cr Pitt to the team and look forward to working alongside her to continue to grow and create a more sustainabl­e community,” a council spokesman said.

Linda’s park honour

A PARK in Enyan Circuit, Aurukun, has been named after Linda Sivyer. Ms Sivyer received an OAM in 2016 for her work in the community and was executive assistant to the mayor and CEO for 22 years until her retirement in 2014.

Pool hours change

THE Cooktown Pool will be closed from 9am to 10am every second Wednesday so Cook Shire Council’s team can carry out garden maintenanc­e at the grounds. The closures begin from tomorrow.

Pick up free mulch

FREE mulch will be available at the Cooktown Waste Transfer Station until this Friday. For more details or to book your mulch, contact the transfer station on 0428 793 147.
