Wanderers put it together at the right time
AFTER such an up-and-down season maybe the Wanderers have finally come together at just the right time.
With the Roar and Wanderers both in similar positions coming into Saturday’s game you would’ve thought that it was going to be a great battle to secure their place in the finals.
But at halftime the game was over with the Wanderers brushing aside an all-round weak effort from the Roar.
Aloisi declared that the Roar were probably the form team of the competition going into the match it seems that piece of mind games backfired.
■ With Sydney having a difficult spell juggling the demands of two separate competitions it seems that they have proven they can still produce when needed. Against the Reds, Bobo had a field day, bagging a brace to bring his tally for the season to 26.
It’s a huge achievement for the striker, who has now passed Fornaroli for the record of most goals in a season.
Matt Simon, who hasn’t seen much game time, popped up with a nicely placed header to put the game out of reach.
At this point it’s tough to bet against a team that rallied exceptionally well after some lacklustre performances.
■ With the Mariners currently without a head coach secured for next season the latest rumour circulating is that the job will be offered to Mike Mulvey.
A coach who has won an ALeague title with the Roar would seem like a good choice considering he has the experience needed with the landscape of the A-League.
Having worked under Mulvey as a player in the Gold Coast United days, the issue will be how much control he is afforded.
He is a very ambitious coach and a little polarising so it will be interesting to see whether he is appointed and how the owners will take him.
