Seeking clues to accident
POLICE are searching for a driver involved in a minor collision with the car of a 54-yearold woman who died shortly after a second traffic crash at Westcourt.
The woman had been driving along Gatton St about 2.40pm on Monday when it is believed she lost control of a white Volkswagen hatch and crashed through a fence on Newton St near a childcare centre. She was critically injured as a result.
“Sadly a 54-year-old local woman lost her life … we believe it was a medical incident of some sort,” Cairns District Crime Prevention Unit Senior Constable Russell Parker said.
Revival attempts were made at the scene but the woman did not regain consciousness and was pronounced dead at Cairns Hospital. “We have infor- mation that she was involved in a very minor traffic incident only minutes prior,” Sen-Constable Parker said.
It is believed two cars had collided on Gatton St either at the roundabout on Martyn St or the roundabout on Severin St about 2.20pm or 2.30pm.
“She spoke with the driver of another vehicle, they exchanged details in relation to that incident,” Sen-Constable Parker said.
The woman then travelled south-westerly down Gatton St towards the TAFE Queensland North Cairns Campus.
“We’re very keen to identify the person that she spoke to in relation to that minor traffic incident,” Sen-Constable Parker said. “We’re trying to get information in relation to her condition at the scene of that first incident.”
