Confused by WA contract

-

IN regard to the decision taken to award the dry-docking contract to a Western Australian company (CP, 6/4).

There would appear to be a lack of due diligence in the logistics involved in this resolution.

For a Cairns-based vessel having to sail to Western Australia for dry-docking would appear to be a perfect example of a “no-brainer”.

It takes about a week for the voyage, and in that time the docking could have been completed here in Cairns, and the vessel back in service.

The Western Australian option would have the vessel out of service for three weeks with the added expense of the fuel bill and the inherent risk of grounding during the transit of the Great Barrier Reef as recently displayed by the Roebuck Bay. I know this from feedlot and caged poultry employees, both questionable industries, which also need independent scrutiny by surveillance cameras and for live export independent investigators, employed by the government.

The only political party in Australia advocating the stop to live exports is the Greens. Eugenie Navarre, Trinity Beach
