The Far North Queensland and the Tablelands District teams will head to Seaforth Bowls Club (Mackay) on Friday for the annual Northern Cup Challenge. Defending champions Far North have selected a strong team but can expect to be pushed by the strong Mackay District team with the home advantage, a very strong Townsville District team and a quietly confident Tablelands team. FNQ team Manager, Bryan Walker is looking forward to the week-end games. “It is a chance for the four Districts to fine tune their teams for the up-coming State District sides championships on the Gold Coast and allows players to gain valuable representative experience.” TFNQ President, Bernie Wolland added “The Cup week-end also allows Districts in the North to discuss matters affecting Bowls clubs outside the Eastern /Metropolitan Districts at a meeting held on the Saturday night.” Good luck to all competitors. On Saturday a small band enjoyed a social afternoon with Don’s team taking out the bragging rights. On Sunday morning we played the first of the Monthly Self Selected Triples which had been washed out in March. The winners were Greg, Squeak and Steve. Runners up were Gordon, George and Vince. It was pleasing to see an inexperienced team show the experts how it’s done. Everyone agreed that it was a great format and would look forward to the game next month. Winners on the night receiving 5 points were Elle Lucas, Wally Kriesel and Louise Hoskins, 4 points went to Rod Saunders, Tim Kerrigan and Fred Caltabiano with Sam Campbell, Peter Longford and Tyler Edgerton receiving 3 points. All other players received 1 point with Elle Lucas topping the social MVP leader board. Next round of the Barefoot comp is scheduled for May 4th starting at 6pm.
