MAREEBA’S Seth Luhrs lived his life by the words: “It is better to have lived one day as a lion than 1000 years as a sheep.”

Loved ones packed the Mountain View Chapel in Atherton yesterday to farewell the 24-year-old with the infectious smile, cheeky sense of humour and big heart.

Tragically, he fell to his death on April 1 from the seventh floor of Rydges Esplanade Resort.

His family and friends cried as much as they laughed when his sister Tasmin Luhrs, brother Zeb Luhrs and close mate Rob Hodgson spoke of his many pranks and shared an insight into why he was so loved.

“He was loyal and always standing up for what he believed in,” Tasmin said.

“He was the best mate someone could ask for and an amazing brother … and a fantastic son.

“You could count on his cheeky sense of humour to always make you laugh. He was a trickster right to the core.”

Zeb called his brother a hero.

“He always looked forward and stayed positive,” he said.

Even after Seth was diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis and was in a lot of pain, he didn’t let life get him down.

In fact, it had been looking up after new medication had given him a new lease on life.

He was working, back at the gym and making plans.

“I count myself blessed to call him my brother and to be able to share so much love and laughter with him,” Zeb said.

“Him being taken from us so young is a wound on my soul.”

Seth’s bond with his mates was cast iron, forged by his strong sense of love and loyalty.

“It wasn’t a friendship, it was a brotherhood, a family, and Seth didn’t hesitate to make that very clear with his lack of boundaries,” Rob said.

“It takes such a special soul to have an impact on people’s lives the way Seth did.”

Mystery surrounds the circumstances behind Seth’s death as police continue their investigations.
