Exchange student finds a lot to love about Far North
HELLO, I am Emily Leimbach and I am from Bochum, Germany.
I am 16 years old and I’ll stay here for two terms.
I came to Cairns because I really like the fact that Cairns has the impressive tropical jungle, the beautiful beaches and, of course, the Great Barrier Reef.
That was probably the main reason, because I am really looking forward to going snorkelling again.
I am staying with a host family. My host parents are very kind and always looking after me. I am very lucky. My host family has already taken me on cool day trips like going snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef and driving to Barron Falls.
My first weeks at Cairns High were very exciting.
The teachers are very kind and I made some new friends and I spend my time with them after school or on the weekends.
My favourite subjects probably are dance, drama and HPE. I chose these subjects because I really like dancing and acting and I don’t have the opportunity to study these at my school in Germany.
I am so thankful and glad to get the opportunity to live and study half a year in Cairns, because I think this really will help me to grow as a person and to become more independent.
I have already fallen in love with Australia and the life here.
As for now, I am really enjoying my time here in Cairns and I am looking forward to gaining as many experiences as possible.
