Baynes stars but can’t get Celtics over the line

A NEAR double-double from Mareeba’s Aron Baynes was not enough to stop Giannis Antetokoun­mpo and the Milwaukee Bucks beating the Boston Celtics 104-102 yesterday morning to tie their firstround playoff series at 2-2.

The Far North big man arguably had his best game of the series, grabbing 11 rebounds and nine points in 19 minutes on court.

Game 5 is on tomorrow morning in Boston.

The loss for the Celtics overshadow­ed their spirited rally from a 65-45 deficit with 7:37 left in the third quarter.

■ A HAUL of 24 points from Cairns’ Deba George lifted Albury Wodonga over North-West Tasmania Thunder in Round 3 of the SEABL.

George’s club are 2-1 after three games of the 2018 season. He hit eight of his 19 shots as well as handing out three assists in the 89-71 win.

Former Taipan Tevin Jackson also feature for the Bandits, he finished with nine points and four rebounds.

■ BADU Islander Timakoi Bowie kicked a goal but his Gold Coast Suns NEAFL side was well beaten by the Brisbane Lions on Sunday.

In the NEAFL Q-clash, the Lions claimed a 47-point win.

Rookie-listed Sun Jacob Heron also featured in the loss as he pushes his claims for a senior debut.

■ IT was a forgettabl­e opening to the UCI World Cup season for both Hannah siblings after neither made it to the start line in Losinj, Croatia.

Mick Hannah suffered a broken finger during a crash in the first official timed runs of the weekend.

Tracey Hannah, who qualified second, had a fall in practice before the final and needed stitches as well as nursing a sore hip.
