Sailor salutes students for their role in ceremony

HMAS Cairns Leading Seaman Kane Bradbury was touched by the more than 1800 Redlynch State College students who came together to commemorat­e Anzac Day.

The school’s annual event, held yesterday, was the only one attended by every student, including Mr Bradbury’s fiveyear-old son Braxton.

The school choir and senior strings band performed and students laid wreaths.

With daughter Bonnie, 2, also by his side, LS Bradbury hopes the respect and pride instilled in his children at such an early age will continue throughout their lives.

“I was really impressed by the way the kids handled it and the respect they showed,” the electronic­s technician and navy veteran of 14 years said.

“It was beautifull­y Hats off to the school.

“My kids just know I work on a big boat and I go away to sea a fair bit. They’re aware I’m in the navy, but they don’t fully grasp what it is I actually do.

“It’s very humbling to be part of the defence force. done.

“Anzac Day is a day of remembranc­e for myself and for the people who have served before us.”

LS Bradbury served as part of Operation Resolute protecting the borders of the Far North and this morning will attend the dawn service at the Cairns Esplanade Cenotaph with his family.

“I hope they take forward in life the respect and encouragem­ent shown by service personnel and their families. It is important to have that to ensure a brighter future for all involved in the defence forces.”
