Mitchell comes out all guns blazing in opener

FORMER Cairns Marlins captain James Mitchell started the 2018 QBL season with a bang.

The Rockhampto­n forward dropped 34 points on 14-21 shooting as well as grabbing 11 rebounds and handing out five assists.

In the 107-94 victory, Mitchell finished with a plus 17 plus-minute rating in his 36:47 minutes on court.

■ CAIRNS Taipan Damon Heuir has taken no time adjusting to New Zealand’s style of basketball.

The combo-guard put on a show in his NZ NBL debut on the weekend, finishing with a stat line of 25 points, three rebounds and nine assists as he took just 11 shots.

His Nelson Giants won, 117-68, belting the Super City Rangers in the biggest win in the club’s history.
