FORMER Mareeba State High School captain Clint Posselt had a promising national rugby league career ahead of him, but last night wowed Australia with his voice. Clint made all four judges in The Voice Australia turn their chairs in the television music competition.

FROM the rugby field to the national stage, Clint Posselt sure knows how to turn a few heads.

The former Mareeba State High School captain, who signed for Melbourne Storm after graduating in 2012, wowed singers Joe Jonas, Delta Goodrem, Kelly Rowland and Boy George, when stepping up to audition in this year’s series of The Voice.

The 23-year-old’s blind audition aired on TV screens across the country last night.

Performing his version of Miley Cyrus’ hit Malibu, the Far North Queensland talent earned himself a four-chair turn.

“I practised a lot before my audition and then got on stage and it went amazingly,” Clint said.

“I had one chair turn really early in the piece, after a few lines, and that sort of relaxed me.

“Then slowly all three of the other chairs turned.”

Clint said his audition was filmed in early February in Sydney and he was supported by his mother, brother, two best friends and his girlfriend on the day.

“Going into the auditions I wanted Joe Jonas to turn,” he said. “He’s the fresh face, he’s had massive success in the US and growing up I used to watch him on Disney and in the movie Camp Rock.

“As I was singing he turned first and early on so that cemented it for me that I was going to choose him.

“He’s got so much experience and leading up to the knockouts I’ll be taking advice from him and working with him.”

Close friend Chris Black attended the audition with Clint, watching from backstage during his blind audition.

He said he was extremely proud of Clint’s achievement.

“It was a great experience to go down there with him and see how it all works,” he said.

“We live together in Cairns so I hear him sing around the house and in the car all the time and I knew he could sing, but nothing like he did.

“We weren’t sure how he was going to go because singing on stage and singing in the car are completely different.

“But he did so well and it was great to see him up on stage. He was really confident considering he didn’t have a lot of experience being in front of such a big crowd.”

Clint will now move on to the knockout rounds, which will be aired on Channel 9 in the coming weeks.
