CINEPHILES from End Credits Film Club are moving home after 15 years and promising to continue to deliver a tasty smorgasbord of international and Australian movies.

The group’s former domain, the Centre of Contemporary Arts on Abbott St, is due to close for major renovations in August following a State Government election promise to build a new indigenous performing arts incubator in Cairns.

End Credits president Brett Hitchens said the group would relocate its Sunday Unseen Cinema series to the cool and comfortable Event Cinemas Cairns City complex on Grafton St.

“We’ve been aware for some time that CoCA will be closing for renovations, and when it does, we don’t know how long it will be closed for,” he said.

“We wanted to make sure our members continue to have access to movies that would not normally be offered in Cairns.”

Movies will continue to be shown on the first and third Sunday of each month from 4.30pm. The program will be announced through the club’s website as well as its Facebook page.

The group launched the venue change on Sunday with a screening of A Fantastic Woman, a French film awarded the Oscar for best foreign language film this year.

A screening of British comedy The Party will be held on May 20 with tickets – $10 for members and $15 for nonmembers – available at the cinema box office unless sold out prior.
