Appetising start for new bar

- ALICIA NALLY alicia.nally@news.com.au

IN six weeks, cafe owner Brendan Caulfield will have a newlook Esplanade eatery and his neighbouring wine and tapas bar will capitalise on this winter’s busy event schedule along the Esplanade.

The owner of Coast Roast Cafe on the corner of Shields St opened Laguna on the Esplanade in December and said, while trade had been steady, events such as the Ironman were set to put the business on the map of city bars.

“Like all new businesses in Cairns it has been a bit slow,” Mr Caulfield said.

“But Laguna was packed on PH: 07 4033 6944 Labour Day and Anzac Day, it was really busy all day long.

“The name was something that reflected its position across the road from our beautiful lagoon.”

Mr Caulfield said, while he preferred customers dined at the Esplanade eatery, the takeaway packaging on offer was all biodegradable.

“I spent eight years diving on the Reef when I moved to Cairns, so I really wanted to move in that direction,” he said.

The Irishman from Waterford did not want to reveal too much about the renovation of his other business Coast Roast Cafe but said new doors and floor tiles would be installed within the next two months. 1/472 Mulgrave Rd, Earville QLD 4870
