NOVA IN DEMAND

FAR NORTH SPENDS UP:

- ALICIA NALLY alicia.nally@news.com.au

ABOUT half of Nova City’s luxury units have been bought by Far North locals.

The unaudited first quarter financial statements of Aspial Corporation Limited’s subsidiary World Class Global showed 39 per cent of the 101 units already launched were under contract.

But sales director Zak Thaker said the figure was closer to 50 per cent with some sales not yet in the final stages.

“Out of that 50 per cent, 90 per cent of the buyers are Australian and half of those are locals,” he said. “It is progressing well.” A local company is among three tier one construction companies who have tendered to build the 17-storey, 187apartment tower Nova Light, which will offer a high-end, retail dining precinct at street level.

The other two contenders for the project are both Australian companies.

LDI Constructions is currently completing the piling works for the massive project.

Over the past five weeks 92 of the fast and economical continuous flight auger pilings, measuring 30m in length, have been buried into the ground at the Spence St site.

A delay in sourcing machinery to install 201 high-capacity, cast-in-place Franki pilings means the next stage of the building base will not start until late May.

Mr Thaker said that component of the build would take seven weeks.

He will join other WCG executives in Singapore next week for the next stage of the tender process.

“This is a major project. It is not just one tower we are building. We’re doing a podium which is to hold two towers so there is a lot of work going in to it,” he said.

“We have two viewing windows on Spence St which locals can use to view the progress of the building.

“Already $14 million worth of work on sewerage, drainage and roadworks has been done.”
