Big fishing contest

THE Weipa Fishing Classic is on June 8-10 and will host local and interstate anglers competing for a record prize pool of more than $100,000. There are plenty of activities for the kids, casting competitio­ns, tug of war showdowns, live entertainm­ent, dance groups, community displays, exhibits, food and drinks. Join festival ball

COOK Shire Council is calling for interest from local not-for-profit groups to run table service and a licensed bar at the Cooktown Discovery Festival Ball on Friday, June 15. For more informatio­n, contact the council’s tourism team. Expression­s of interest must be sent in writing to the council by 4.45pm today.

Roadworks ahead

DURING May there will be changed traffic conditions on the Cooktown waterfront. Heavy machinery will be working on the Webber Esplanade road, and to ensure pedestrian and vehicle safety, traffic will be detoured at times during the works. Please obey signage and staff in the area, and expect traffic and parking changes this month.

Ferry concession­s

WUJAL Wujal and Cook Shire residents are eligible for the extension to the Daintree ferry concession cards for another 10 months thanks to Douglas Shire Council.
