Motlop: There’s Power in discipline

- JORDAN GERRANS

MARK Motlop wants his Pyramid Power playing group to harness their emotions to bring out their best.

The experienced Northern Territory coach is in his first season at the helm at Power Park, flying between the Far North and Darwin to coach the fledgling AFL Cairns club.

Motlop has been at half of the Power’s reserves games this season and is aiming to relocate to Cairns next season, with the hope the club steps up to the senior competition.

Motlop, a premiership coach at NTFL club Southern Districts, can see plenty of positives with the Power but knows they still have room to improve.

“Every coaching job is a challenge but I have found the boys at Pyramid to be responsive,” Motlop said.

“There is still work that needs to be done about our structures and discipline.

“There is a lot of talent at the club but there are times when discipline is an issue.”

The Power sit third on the reserves ladder and tonight have a rare Cazalys Stadium Friday night fixture against Cairns Saints from 6:45pm.

Motlop feels the club will be contenders in the finals later this season but pointed to a recent game where the Power copped two red cards and five yellow cards and gave away six 50m penalties to illustrate an area where they can continue to improve their discipline, adding the results will follow.

The Gordonvale-based club has been led by Christopher Wray, Craig Waldon and Vincent Mundraby this season and will rely on them tonight against Saints.
