PORT ON PARADE
TANKS FOR EVERYTHING
MARKET stalls lined the Tanks promenade on Collins Avenue yesterday morning as the popular market day returned for another month.
Along with live entertainment by local musicians, market stalls showed an array of local art, craft, produce, vintage clothing, collectibles and local natural health products and treatments.
The Tanks markets are held on the last Sunday of the month, from April to November, excluding August.

CULTURE OUT OF AFRICA
This year’s Cairns African Festival celebrated African culture with rhythmic live music at the Tank Arts Centre . Simba Mushete & Echoes of African Music headlined the entertainment, playing a unique blend of African music fused with Zimbabwean traditional instruments. Drum and dance performances by local African youths gave kids the chance to shine alongside big-name music acts. The Cairns African Festival combines the previously celebrated International Day of the African Child (June 16) and Africa Day (May 25) into one event for the first time in Cairns.
PORT TAKIN’ IT TO THE STREETS
FROM gourmet food events to the Macrossan Street Parade, Four Mile Family Beach Day and Seafood Extravaganza, thousands from across the region and beyond converged on Port Douglas for the Carnivale festivities at the weekend. It was a sold out weekend for all ticketed events with crowds out and about enjoying the Carnivale program from Friday through to Sunday. Kicking off the festivities was the street parade, which attracted about 10,000 people and more than 25 floats.
DOG DAY AFTERNOON
The Centrals Trinity Beach faithful turned up to Crathern Park on Saturday afternoon to watch their side record its third straight win in the 2018 AFL Cairns premiership. The Bulldogs stormed into the top four with a 41-point victory over the fifth-placed Manunda Hawks. While the strong winds played havoc with the skill levels of all players, the Bulldogs supporters would have been buoyed by the fivegoal performances from skipper Jackson Williams and Max Culpitt. Next week the Bulldogs travel to Fretwell Park to confront South Cairns.
