National Burger Day a reason to salivate

- JACK LAWRIE

WHEN it comes to preparing a good beef burger, Evo Burger Cairns co-owner Darren Law says the importance comes from the roll, the patty and how it’s assembled.

Today is National Burger Day and burger restaurants across Cairns are ready to provide a tasty meal for all the family.

Mr Law said the burger had remained an enduring popular meal over the years for its simplicity.

“With the classic Evo Burger, there are only really four or five parts to it, so the main thing is to ensure the ingredients are fresh and cooked to order,” he said.

“We keep our salads nice and simple – fresh tomato lettuce, pickles and red onion, then we had the special sauce which is a combination of tomato ketchup, mustard and mayonnaise.”

While nothing beats a classic hamburger, Mr Law said burger restaurants were also taking into consideration the demand for specialised options such as vegetarian burgers and the increasingly popular alternative to the beef burger, the chicken burger.

“I think people want to try something different from time to time – different sides, different patties,” he said.

Cairns parents Nigel and Amanda Hale enjoy taking their kids Emma and Oliver out for a good burger.

Young Oliver has also started helping out in the kitchen, looking up a nice hamburger recipe on Youtube.

“I showed Mum the recipe and she thought it looked good so we made it,” he said.

“It was based on the In ‘N’ Out burger in the US, it was really nice.”
