Vikki’s dad slams media hypocrites
VIKKI Campion’s Far Northern father has slammed the faux media outrage over his daughter’s decision to accept $150,000 for a tell-all TV interview about her affair with Barnaby Joyce.
Tolga-based former firefighter Peter Campion said the deputy prime minister would not receive a cent from the report – and an even bigger payday had been offered.
“It went via Vikki (a private citizen) to a trust account for Sebastian’s future health and education,” he wrote in an email to the Cairns Post. “My wife is the trustee.” Mr Campion, who famously suggested Mr Joyce should give himself an uppercut when news broke of the brewing bub, accused Channel 9 of fabricating disgust over the paid interview out of simple jealousy.
“Channel Nein (sic) didn’t lose a bidding war with Seven because the story wasn’t offered to anyone,” he said. “Seven had the idea to explore the story and made Vikki an offer for the privilege, which she accepted.
“Nein’s (sic) negativity is a fat, festering bunch of sour grapes because it wasn’t their idea. When they belatedly made an offer it was 40 per cent bigger, but far too late.”
Mr Campion suggested journalists hypocritically had pushed his grandson into the limelight and then demanded Vikki accept no money on her son’s behalf.
“It seems the media think it’s OK to make money and score ideological points out of Baanaby (sic) and his family while prohibiting them making money and scoring ideological points out of the media,” he said.
“As a newbie journo at the Tablelander a decade or so ago, Vikki single-handedly squeezed an extra million dollars in funding for the Atherton Hospital out of the government – and in the process was banned from the hospital buildings and grounds by its manager.
“She has done more for local people than most young mothers but that is entirely disregarded as the media and pundits howl their jealous outrage that she made a windfall for her new baby.
“Their envy is palpable and sickening.”
