Napa pledges to maintain aggression

FIERY Queensland forward Dylan Napa says he will never change his hard-hitting, aggressive ways as he prepares to become the Maroons’ next forward leader.

The Roosters prop came under fire for his playing style in the lead-up to his Origin recall after he broke Broncos for- ward Korbin Sims’ jaw in a tackle a fortnight ago.

However, a number of former players have since defended Napa – who escaped a charge for the hit – including Queensland selector Gene Miles, who said he wanted to see the “fired-up Dylan Napa” for Game One on Wednesday.

“The Raging Bull” Gorden Tallis also called for Napa to maintain his aggression, writing in his Sunday Mail column that Queensland “need someone that literally scares the sh*t out of people”.

And Napa has now vowed that he will not back away from his combative ways.

He said he had always played with that same powerful style and it was what Queensland coach Kevin Walters wanted him to bring to the Origin arena.

“I definitely won’t be changing the way I play,” Napa said.

“It’s got me to exactly where I’m standing right now.

“I do understand that I do have to protect the ball carrier but I can’t help accidents.

“I have four fake front teeth because of rugby league. It’s the sport we play.”

Napa’s aggression will be key for the Maroons in overcoming a new-look and youthful Blues pack on Wednesday.

And despite having just three Origin games under his belt, Napa said he was ready to be the next forward leader for the Maroons.

“I’m in the front of the line so whether I like it or not, I have to lead,” he said.
