Giving it a Jolley good go
Innisfail fullback to state his case for ISC as he runs out for Marlins
YOU can bet Aaron Jolley won’t be messing with any rogue doors in the lead-up to running out for the Northern Marlins at the QRL A-Grade Divisional Championships on the Gold Coast.
But even after tearing his hand open before representing Cairns, the Innisfail fullback did enough to impress selectors and he plans to make the most of it to step up his claims for even higher honours.
Jolley is striving for an Intrust Super Cup place, having returned to the Far North from his native New Zealand at his father’s request – and nothing will stand in his way, even one of those deadly doors.
“I’m always excited to get looked at from a team perspective and it’s a little bit of motivation for your individual side of it as well,” he said.
“It’s a privilege and I’m pretty happy to get there.
“I must have done something right to get a little sneak peek in.
“I cut my hand on the door at home trying to close it in a wrong sort of way from behind.
“I had to get stitches and stuff, but it didn’t stop me. “I needed to play. “It slowed me down a bit, but I strapped it up and it was all right.”
Jolley has yet to speak to Northern Pride coach Ty Williams about a potential ISC future but aimed to let his performance do the talking to get his foot in the door.
Innisfail will also lose Mat Laumea and Lata Fakalelu to the carnival but Jolley backed his CDRL side to keep the momentum of their last-start win rolling against Atherton at home this weekend.
“The boys are starting to look a whole lot better than how we started,” he said.
“We’re coming off two good wins and starting to look forward in what we’re doing and our combinations are steering themselves quite nicely.”
