Year 10 girls open young eyes to the future
By Amber Rossow-Fraser, Year 5, Holy Cross School
RECENTLY four special girls came to Holy Cross Year 5 classes to talk about life at St Monica’s College.
They have the most exciting news ever. Guess what? If you study French at St Monica’s you get to go to France in Year 10 and if you study Japanese you get to go to Japan.
When the St Monica’s students came to Holy Cross, they explained everything.
They talked about the camps, sewing, sport, high teas and a lot more.
St Monica’s is the smallest high school, only for girls, in Far North Queensland.
They say that girls work a lot better when the boys are out of the way.
This is because, well … not being mean … but boys can be distracting.
Anyway, the girls that came were in Year 10 and gave tips on what it is like in high school.
These girls said they are a sporty bunch and hope that will inspire most girls to play sports.
Jacqui Bahceci from Year 5 said: “I was persuaded and inspired by the students of St Monica’s to go there and learn so much.”
She also said she was inspired to get out and about more and explore, instead of lounging around at home.
The girls talked a little about their old primary school years and turns out one of the girls used to come to Holy Cross.
We also learnt that in a couple years’ time we will get to be a captain for different things, although you have to persuade people to vote for you to get the job of being a captain.
High school sounds exciting.
At the last minute they all said their farewells.
At the end I also said in acknowledgment: “Thank you for joining us here on this special day and hope we get to see you some time in the future.”
