MUMS, BUBS TOGETHER IN NURTURING PALM COVE RETREAT
JEANY Schall and Philippa Bowman have teamed up to present Cairns’ first Mums and Bubs Retreat.
The Palm Cove event has been designed by the health practitioners to allow mothers and their children to learn about exercise, meditation and nutrition together.
Ms Bowman said the concept was to allow mothers and children to stay together while mums got the education and relaxation they deserved.
“Most of the time there are retreats for mums, but they’re leaving their babies behind. It’s not easy to leave your baby behind, but mums still want to be able to reset and have that metime as well,” she said.
“Motherhood can be quite overwhelming, and sometimes we can just get caught up in our own heads with what’s going on in life. It’s nice to have that chance to reset and be around like-minded people to set you off on your journey.”
Ms Schall said women were often cornered into being mums, taxi drivers, cleaners and chefs but weren’t given enough time to meet other women.
She said one of the main aims of the Mums and Bubs Retreat was to give mothers a safe and nurturing space to connect with other mums.
“It’s about empowerment in bringing women together as a community,” she said.
“There’s so much expected from mums in their households.
There’s very little support and we often feel very isolated, so we want to bring these mums together in person.”
She said the retreat would offer plenty by the way of health education, and would support new mums as they adjust to raising a new baby.
“We want to educate them and support them on their way into motherhood, particularly if they’ve just had a baby, whether that’s mentally, physically or through nutrition,” she said.
“The babies, particularly, from three months up to 18 months is the perfect age because they can sit in their carriers and enjoy the kangafitness sessions.”
The retreat runs from Friday, October 26 to Sunday, October 28. Tickets are available at nurturedfitness.com/retreat.
