Fine for woman’s attack of jealousy

- ELISABETH CHAMPION

AN INNISFAIL woman who clawed at her former boyfriend after finding him with another woman fronted court this week.

Gabrielle Monique Ambrum, 18, pleaded guilty in the Innisfail Magistrates Court on Monday to contravening a domestic violence order and committing public nuisance.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Adam Marre told the court that Ambrum was charged with public nuisance after she loudly yelled at, and about, the man on a street in Innisfail Estate on April 24.

A member of the public phoned police because of Ambrum’s shouting and when officers arrived, she ran into a cane paddock, but was quickly apprehended.

At 3.20am on May 12, Ambrum used a spare key to let herself into the man’s house.

She became angry and abusive and attacked the man after going into the bedroom and finding another woman in his bed. He told police that he and Ambrum were not going out at the time of the incident.

Ambrum’s solicitor, Mandy Bowen, told the court that, at the time, her client believed the pair were in a relationship.

“They had been in relationship for the last six months and she said they had not broken up and she had stayed at his house the night before,” she said. “She returned the following night, only to find another female in his bedroom.”

Magistrate Cathy McLennan said the charges were serious.

Ambrum was fined $700 and ordered to pay $300 recognisance for breaking a good behaviour bond. No convictions were recorded.
