CAIRNS IN GAME

Going distance for perfect match

DAVE Bott has been a diehard Rabbitohs supporter for almost 60 years.

His wife Lyn laughs that she married into his team about 40 years ago.

“I turned her away from St George,” he said.

“Although it could end up a St George v Rabbitohs final this year.”

The pair travelled from Burpengary by train determined to watch the match at Barlow Park yesterday regardless of the rain.

“It was a really good trip, 24 hours on the train,” Mrs Bott said.

It’s not the first time they’ve come to Cairns for a Rabbitohs/Cowboys game having attended three of the last four.

“I just like the history of the team,” Mr Bott said, adding that the team members had always seemed very down to earth and family orientated. Mrs Bott agreed. “They play so well together too; they come across really good,” she said.

Mr Bott has always remained a diehard supporter.

“I’ve never wavered … even going through the bad times.”

Mr Bott said every year there was always hope that his team would relive its 2014 win.

“This year it already looks very similar to 2014 … it’s on the card they could have another success,” he said.

And his team was that one step closer after their onepoint win against the Cowboys last night.

The couple arrived on Thursday and have enjoyed the region for a few days before heading home today.

“We love Cairns,” Mrs Bott said.
