-

KOWANYAMA product Fitzroy Greenwool hit the scoreboard in the Gold Coast Suns’ 27-point win over Redland at Metricon Stadium on Saturday evening in the NEAFL.

The fleet-footed Greenwool banged on two goals in the 15.11 (101) to 10.14 (74) win that ensures the Suns remain within arm’s reach of the top six in the NEAFL ladder, trailing the finals pack by just one win.

Tui Lowah, a teammate of Greenwool’s at the Cape York Eagles, also booted a goal in the win while Cairns Saints junior Jacob Heron was named in the Suns best players.

Former Cairns City Lion Daniel Charlesworth was busy for Southport in their NEAFL win over the NT Thunder.

■ FORMER Cairns-based footballer Mary Fowler hit the back of the net as the Young Matildas scored a 7-0 win over Malaysia in the opening match of the AFF Women’s Championship.

Fowler made it 3-0 after just six minutes.

Later in the game, Fowler found her second after her first shot was blocked but Malaysia was unable to clear the ball from the box so the former Far North junior regained possession to score.

“It’s always pleasing to start off the group matches with a win,” Young Matildas coach Leah Blayney said,

The young Matildas will now take on East Timor in their second group match on Wednesday.

■ CAIRNS junior Teyla Evans was efficient in the Rockhampton Cyclones win over the Gladstone Port City Power on Saturday night in the QBL.

Evans (pictured) hit five of her nine shots on the way to 11 points as well as grabbing seven rebounds and handing out two assists.

Evans’ Cyclones have a 7-4 record after 10 rounds of the 2018 QBL campaign.
