CURIOUS minds will be able to learn about creepy-crawlies, crocs and conservation at Mount Sheridan Plaza during the school holidays.

The southside shopping centre has an entertaining and educational program organised for the two-week break.

Reptile Education Safety Training Australia (RESTA) will help children explore the wonderful world of reptiles.

“They’ll be able to trek through the ‘forest’ and get up close and personal with interactive presentations which feature a range of snakes, lizards, crocodiles and all their favourite creepy-crawlies,” Mount Sheridan marketing manager Kay Judd said.

“It’s guaranteed to delight every child.”

RESTA will hold shows daily this week at 9am, 10.30am, noon and 1.30pm, with photo opportunities available at 11am, 12.30pm and 2pm with Hulk, the 6m replica crocodile.

“Young visitors can learn about conservation and the environment, take part in encounters and hear about caring for animals,” Ms Judd said.

Meanwhile, Minjil Yidinji Cultural Services will help Mount Sheridan Plaza celebrate NAIDOC Week from July 9-13.

“We’ll be celebrating and observing the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples,” Ms Judd said. “Our nation’s history and heritage begins with Aboriginal people and NAIDOC Week gives an opportunity to recognise this history and culture.”

Children will engage in art and craft activities across five stations in the centre court area, including face painting, cultural workshops, clay sculpture, NAIDOC T-shirt art and jewellery making.

There will also be cultural performances, entertainment and two competitions for the chance to win family passes to Hartley’s Crocodile Adventures and passes to Cairns Zoom and Wildlife Dome.
