FOODIES and growers across the country will be able to connect like never before with the launch of a Far North Queensland based app.

Led by Erica Hughes, the Farmer Meets Foodie app went live last week and is already gaining notable support.

“We have 100 each of producers and commercial foodies on the app and more than 70 products available from all of Australia, though mostly North Queensland based,” Mrs Hughes said.

“We are aiming to get more businesses from North Queensland on board in the next few weeks and the rest of the state throughout July to coincide with the Regional Flavours Festival in Brisbane on July 21 and 22.”

Through the app people can search for fruit and vegetables in season in their area as well as find a company looking for products and a company who can transport.

“I’ve worked on the app for just over 18 months,” Mrs Hughes said. “But full time since last October when I received an Ignite Ideas Grant from the Queensland Government.”

The launch of the app coincided with a Sustainability Day Out tour in the Mareeba/ Dimbulah region, which showcased growers’ currently at the forefront of sustainability.

Supported by Northern Gulf Resource Management Group through funding from the Australian Governments National Landcare Program, about 20 of the region’s growers toured three properties that have implemented a variety of sustainability practices.
