Please get names in before 11:30am. Saturday July 7: pennant finals venue West Cairns. Winners presentati­ons will take place after the games (around 5pm). Division 1 Final: Edge Hill v Marlin Coast. Results of final round in Section 1 saw Bros Edmonton 71 defeat Marlin Coast 60. Despite their win Edmonton fell one game short and Marlin Coast finish sectional winners. In Section 2, West Cairns were surprise winners over South Johnstone 76 shots to 64. South Johnstone and Edge Hill had a close game on Sunday with South Johnstone winning 61 shots to 59. It must be noted that this was the only loss Edge Hill suffered in sectional play over all three divisions throughout the Pennant season. A truly outstandin­g result. The Mongrels needed to win both their games on the weekend to progress to the final. Division 2: Winner Edge Hill. Edge Hill defeated Tully in their final round match 45 shots to 33. The game between Babinda and West Cairns was washed out and will be played to decide second and third. Presentati­on to Edge Hill to take place as part of the Finals afternoon. Division 3: Last game of round robin Finals – Innisfail v Edge Hill1 will played at Results of round robin game 1 saw Edge Hill1 50 defeat Edge Hill2 31 and round robin game 2 saw Edge Hill2 45 defeat Innisfail 34. The result of the final round robin match will decide the winner of the pennant. The winners of Divisions 1 and 2 will proceed to the District Finals on August 5 at Yungaburra. There were a couple of games postponed due to wet weather on the weekend – Division 1 Innisfail v Cairns and Division 2 Babinda v West Cairns – these are to played at a later time mutually agreeable to the clubs involved. The outcome of these games will not impact on the overall Pennants results.

Gordonvale Ladies: today 1pm, social bowls, visitors very welcome. Last week we welcomed 34 bowlers for a fun afternoon of bowls and afternoon tea for President Naomi’s Day. Gordonvale Men: Thursday July 5: clubselect­ed 3-bowl Pairs names by 12noon for 1pm start. Last week’s winners F Rich/B Wright. Sunday July 1: Challenge Match with Brothers Edmonton was played at our club resulting in a win for Edmonton by a very narrow margin. A return match will be played later in the year. MAREEBA SILKWOOD BOWLS CLUB

Saturday June 30: South Johnstone v West Cairns (Div 1). Hayden Honke, Michael Hooker, Santo Raciti and Kevin Villalba finished with a draw on their rink but South Johnstone went down overall by 10 shots. Sunday July 1: South Johnstone (Div 1) played their last game of the season against Edge Hill. A strong 17-point win to Shane McInerney, Hayden Honke, Michael Hooker and John Zaini was enough to cover the other 2 rinks and South Johnstone won the match by 2 shots overall. Friday July 6: Twilight Bowls. The Barefooot competitio­n continues with the night kicking off at 6pm with pizza dinner and bowls to start at 6.30pm. Cost for pizza and bowls is $15. Sunday: social bowls, cards called 1pm, start 1.30pm start, cost $10, smoko provided. Friday July 6: Nomination­s for the Champion of Club Champion (Fours, Pairs, A&B Singles) close at 5pm. Nomination are to be sent by the club’s secretary to Mal Mackney (TFNQ). A club can be nominated, but the TFNQ Match Committee must be informed of the players names by 6pm the Sunday before each event commences to check on possible forfeits and player eligibilit­y. For the first time ever we welcomed a lawn bowler from Sweden who joined the other 29 bowlers participat­ing in our mixed social game last Monday. The rain stayed away until we were drawing the raffle after the game. Winners Irene Anderson, Dennis Evans, and Ted Hamilton. Bowls commences at 1.30pm each Monday and lasts for three hours, Cards are called at 1.15pm and we ask that all players be at the club at that time. Names of players for next week, either local or visiting, are asked to either contact selector Rosemary before 1pm on phone 0409 624 623 or nominate on the sheet available at West Cairns Bowls Club. Players who have not played before are also asked to indicate their preferred playing position at time of nomination. Our all games are all noncompeti­tive and all bowlers are welcome to participat­e.
